Software Downloads
In order to comply with licensing terms, all software on this page may only be downloaded from computers on the University of Alabama network unless otherwise noted. If you are a University faculty, staff, retiree, or student who needs this software for your home computer and cannot download it here, bring a blank recordable CD or a USB drive to the HelpDesk in 125 Gordon Palmer.
Additional software licensing programs are available through the University.
Anti-Virus
The University has a site license for the McAfee line of anti-virus software for Windows workstations, Windows servers, and Macintosh. This license covers all University-owned computers as well as computers owned by University faculty, staff, and students.
Windows (University-owned): Contact your local network administrator or call the HelpDesk (348-HELP) for installation.
Windows (Home use): McAfee VirusScan
Stinger tool: A standalone utility to detect and remove specific viruses. Always download the most recent version from Network Associates.
Macintosh (OS X 10.4.6 and higher on either Intel or Power PC): VirusScan for Mac
Secure Shell, Telnet, SFTP, and FTP
We recommend that you use Secure Shell or SFTP connections instead of telnet or FTP whenever possible. You cannot telnet to bama.ua.edu from off-campus; you must use Secure Shell instead.

Dell Internet Explorer Display fix (available off campus): Fixes a situation where Internet Explorer on a laptop with a high-resolution display distorts images. This is a small registry file that simply turns on a setting that is off by default. Windows only
